We know that all foods have a shelf life. In order to extend the shelf life of their products, food manufacturers usually work hard on their packaging. They usually inject gas or vacuum into the food packaging bag. The principle is to create a hypoxic environment to inhibit the growth and reproduction of bacteria on food, so as to prolong the shelf life of food bags. Among them, inflatable packaging is widely used in the packaging of puffed food. There are two reasons for this:
1、 Inhibit bacterial growth. Most bacteria and microorganisms cannot survive without oxygen. Therefore, food manufacturers fill the packaging bags with gas to create a hypoxic environment to inhibit bacterial growth. So, what gas are they filled with? Generally nitrogen or carbon dioxide.
The chemical property of nitrogen is not active, so it is difficult to react with other substances, so it can be used as the filling gas in the food packaging bag so that the food can be kept fresh and guaranteed for a long time. Carbon dioxide also has the characteristics of non-toxic, inactive chemical properties, low cost and wide sources. It is also suitable for inflatable packaging.
For different packaged foods, the gas-filled is also different. Some businesses will fill the bags with oxygen. Oxygen can inhibit the growth and reproduction of anaerobic bacteria, keep the freshness and color of fruits and vegetables, and a high concentration of oxygen can make fresh meat keep its bright red.
2、Protective effect. Puffed foods are brittle and fragile. If these puffed foods are not packed with gas, it is easy to crush the contents during transportation, thus affecting sales. Filling the packaging bag with gas can use its expanding nature to protect and buffer, so as to ensure that the expanded food will not be crushed during transportation.
